first monthly

committees meeting

On August 30, 2017, SFAA conducted its first monthly committees meeting. The meeting is designed for the President and the Vice President of SFAA to brief the committees Chairs and Vice Chairs on the activities of the organization. It also gives the committees leaders an opportunity to discuss on-going activities of each committee.

Some of the issues discussed at the meeting were progress of the A2S program, plans for a nutrition program at STC, update on seeking external sources of funding and the upcoming fall event being  planned by the Planning Committee.

Project Coordinator – Rebuild/Reopen SPHS

Charles E. Cooper, III

Charles E. Cooper III, ’84, Treasurer of SFAA, has been appointed Acting Project Coordinator for Rebuilding/Reopening SPHS. In collaboration with SFAA Chapter in Liberia, he will play a lead role in discussions with the Archdiocese about reopening St. Patrick's High School. Mr. Cooper will act in this role until we find a permanent replacement.

The Project Coordinator for Rebuilding/Reopening of St. Patrick’s falls under the domain of the Project Committee. That committee is organized as follows:

  • Chair - Project Committee

  • Project Coordinators - Rebuilding/ Reopening SPHS

    • USA Representative

    • Liberia Representative

  • Project Coordinators - STC Support

    • USA Representative

    • Liberia Representative

This arrangement will enable Project Coordinators to focus on their assignment while working in tandem with the national organization. Because the schools are in Liberia, the role of the Projects Coordinators in Liberia is critical to the success of SFAA's goals.

message from the president of sfaa

Greetings Saints Friskies Nation,

Monday, September 4, 2017 marked 100 days since you elected the current leadership team. When we began our term, rebuilding the organization became one of our top priorities. We have expanded the leadership team by filling all or some vacancies on the following committees: Finance, Planning, Audit, Regulatory Affairs, and Elections. We also embarked on fulfilling the agenda we set, and below is a summary of what we have accomplished so far:

thank you to our sponsors

SFAA wishes to thank all of those who committed to sponsoring 37 students so far. Your kindness and generosity will go a long way in uplifting the lives of the girls of St. Teresa's Convent (STC).

If you wish to sponsor a child, you can register by clicking here.

Sister Evelina, Principal of STC,  has informed us that very shortly, she will provide us with the list of students who will benefit from your sponsorship. As soon as we receive that information, we will publish it on the sponsors page.

  Shupan  Abraham

   Bridgette Duncan

The Regulatory Affairs Committee is now fully staffed. Bridgette Onike Robers Duncan '80, Shupan Greenfield Abrahams '84 and Francis Gibson '86 were recently appointed to serve as members of the committee. The Regulatory Affairs Committee will handle all matters related to federal regulations governing charity organizations, such as IRS filings. The committee will ensure that SFAA is following all regulations prescribed by the IRS. In addition, they will keep track of our incorporation status and file our DBA registration. The Regulatory Affairs Committee will also be responsible for drafting all amendments to our constitution.

SFAA congratulates all the members of Regulatory Affairs  and thanks them for their service.

On August 26, 2017, Saints Class of '96 celebrated their 20th Anniversary in the Washington DC Metro area.

The class went on a bike ride in suburban Washington DC and fellowshipped in Randallstown, MD.  At their business meeting, the President of SFAA briefed them on the state of SFAA and the organization's new direction.

Class of '96, Known as OMECA, were the last graduates of St. Patrick's High School. Hopefully, they will not be the last class.

OMECA stands for: One of the Most Enlightened Classes in the Arena.

SFAA Congratulates the Boys of OMECA wishes them joy and blessings.

SUrgeries  in liberia

Dr. Kevin and Mrs. Natu Youh Strathy, STC Class of '81, traveled to Liberia in June to perform reconstructive surgery on children who are severely scarred or have other facial deformities.

Dr. Strathy, a plastic surgeon, along with his wife Natu, a surgical nurse, have performed over 80 surgeries in Liberia since December 2016, free of charge. They dedicate their medical training, time, and limited resources toward healing Liberians who are in desperate need of such medical services.

Dr. Kevin and Mrs. Natu Youh Strathy were honored with a humanitarian award at SFAA's convention in May 2017.
